Individual & Group Counseling
Kids who have lived on the streets, typically have a history of trauma and abuse – most likely trauma in the home led them to flee to the streets, but once on the streets the trauma typically continues at the hands of another abuser. Our mental health team is experienced in trauma-informed care and provides both individual and group treatment for our youth.
Our certified counselors provide the much needed counseling, which put our youth on the road to healing. Every individual, who enters our doors, receives an assessment and an individual case file is open on each. After assessment, the invdividual attends an individual counseling session, to assess their individual needs more closely.
Group Counseling sessions are provided for the youth based on similar backgrounds. In Group, youth are encouraged to talk about their situations and share with the group. Through sharing, trust and bonds are created, and healing and surviving can begin.
Helping our youth heal from the wounds of their past is what Covenant House Georgia's experiential therapy program is designed to do. There is an array of recreational and creative therapies to help our youth heal and regain their footing. Art Therapy, Low Roles Course activities, gardening, and drumming are all utilized to help our youth achieve both emotional and behavioral goals. In a drumming circle, they learn to calm themselves and be in a more meditative and interactive state.
Through a partnership with Care and Counseling Services of Georgia, youth in our program have access to a certified pastoral counselor to aid them in their spiritual journey. Pastoral Counseling moves beyond the support or encouragement a religious community can offer, by providing psychologically therapy that weaves in the religious and spiritual dimension. Pastoral counselors are certified mental health professionals that have an extensive educational background.
